Dismantling & reconstructing typeface

Typeface

Dismantled and reconstructed

Intermediate spaces between two bodies can create single letters. Hard shadows on face and body. Finding letters on human topography. Taking a sequence of pictures of the same face, illuminated differently in the same position, could emerge different letters… maybe.
Trying to find letters in the mimic of peoples faces. Scan faces and try to create a grid.
In order to find letters on the human body we tried to capture closeups of body landscapes, which randomly emerged letters and captured them with the camera.

To find a contentual connection to the project related toppic ™dismantling and reconstruction of a typography, we wanted to play with the transformation from usual typefonts to new found typefont inspired by the human body.
Heading back to the thought of working with a facial grid, we took pictures from different faces.
Here we explored similarities and tried to figure out how to emerge a common ground in different faces. In our research we discovered different facial grids, which inspired us to create our own. We wanted that grid to be implemenable to develope a new font.

we developed a grid based on circular shapes as well as on some vertical and horizontal lines, which signify usual face characteristics. We scribbeld first found letters on transparent sheets. Therefor we connecting the overlapping strokes to create indvidual shapes. For a more organic grid we created outlines related to the human face. We layered both grids on each other and again connected the points on transparent sheets to create another fontstyle.
